I absolutely love the character of Leslie Knope because she truly is a positive role model of determination, loyalty, and friendship. As a film production major, I’m so aware of how media impacts us, even if we’re unaware of it. I absolutely love the character of Leslie Knope. Her reckless enthusiasm for initiating world change remains constant, but as the season progress, we journey with Leslie through the difficult setbacks and obstacles that reveal her steadfast spirit and her deep longing for society to be a little bit brighter and better because of her influence. Her hopes and dreams within government, her strained, performance-based relationship with her mom, and her dysfunctional romantic relationships become platforms for her to show how much she truly cares about everything and everyone, and how driven she is to make the world a better place. Throughout the first and second seasons, the depth of Leslie’s character is revealed. Slowly they became best friends as Ann began to see Leslie’s depth, even if it took a while to get past all of her crazy characteristics. Through their professional relationship, Ann discovered that Leslie might seem a little weird, but realized that she was one of the most hardworking and driven women she had ever met. Ann was also introduced in the first episode when Leslie vowed to help Ann with a community problem. As the viewer watching the personality of Leslie unfold, my own feelings about her were mirrored in her relationship with Ann Perkins. She was fiercely loyal and devoted to her friends and work, and her quirky ignorance of normal social cues became endearing rather than annoying (like her infatuation with her co-worker Mark, or her complete disregard of any criticism or negativity from her boss, Ron Swanson). Even in the first couple of episodes, Leslie seemed very different than most other characters on television. I think it was her relentless perseverance that finally captured me. I watched the first episode shortly after it premiered, and I decided not to continue watching because Leslie seemed like a lot to handle. However, because Leslie has such a strong personality, it took me a while to adjust to her. Since Leslie is the main character of Parks and Rec, her character is ” revealed” very quickly. Things she dislikes: She hates salad, the library, and anyone who stands in the way of what she’s trying to accomplish. Things she likes: She loves waffles, friends, work, and accomplishing her goals. Physical traits: She has bright blonde hair and an average build with an extremely expressive face.īiggest motivator: She wants to succeed in order to make the world a better place, but she is also loyally committed to her friends and their well-being. Highest level of education: She graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University. However, she considers herself to be from Pawnee. She always stands up for her friends and her beloved town of Pawnee, Indiana.Ĭharacter history: Tragically, Leslie was born in the controversially awful town of Eagleton because the Pawnee hospital was overrun with raccoons. Personality traits: She is quirky, hardworking, fiercely loyal and devoted. He shows up at the end of Season 2 and they begin dating in Season 3. Leslie’s husband, Ben Wyatt, also works in the government. However, her mother seems to have very low expectations for Leslie and is often very surprised when she succeeds. Occupation: Leslie is a mid-level bureaucrat, initially in the Parks Department of Pawnee, Indianaįamily members and/or significant others: Her mother works in the Pawnee government as well, but their relationship is not very developed. In honor of yesterday being Galentine’s Day, I’m writing about one of my favorite characters from the greatest television show of all time, aka Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec.
